Nymindegab, a hidden gem in Denmark

The best homemade jam and honey

Nymindegab is a hidden gem in Jutland's beautiful countryside. This charming village, surrounded by breathtaking nature, offers a soothing escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Nymindegab is located between the rugged North Sea coast and the tranquil waters of the Ringkøbing Fjord, making it a paradise for nature lovers.

One of the most unique treasures of Nymindegab is the special honey produced on the moors surrounding the village. This honey, which owes its rich flavour to the wildflowers and herbs of the heather, is an absolute must to taste. The local beekeepers have refined their craft to perfection, and the honey reflects the purity and beauty of nature in this region. I've already stocked up on a box of them.

In addition to the delicious honey, Nymindegab offers numerous outdoor activities. The village is an ideal spot for canoeing, where you can explore the tranquil waters of the fjord and enjoy the serene scenery. Whether you're paddling through the winding waterways or hiking along the coastline, the area offers a range of opportunities to be active in nature.

But that's not all. Nymindegab also has plenty of walking and cycling routes that lead you through forests, over dunes and along the water. It's a place where you can truly escape and immerse yourself in the peace and beauty of nature.

Whether you come for the honey, the outdoor activities, or just to enjoy the fresh air and peaceful atmosphere, Nymindegab will enchant you with its simple charm and natural richness. This picturesque village has everything you need to completely unwind, and yet it continues to offer surprises for those who dare to look just a little further.

One of those surprises is Inger. You won't find her in a shop, but just at home, where she proudly sells her homemade jam. And not just any jam, but jars filled with the flavours of the environment – from cranberries, gooseberries and chokeberries. Last year, during a visit to Nymindegab, I decided to take a few of these jars back to the Netherlands. Honestly, I had no idea what to expect.

However, upon returning home, I immediately fell in love with its rich, natural flavor. The jam was unlike anything I had ever tasted: pure, full-bodied, and simply delicious. It was no ordinary jam; it was the taste of Nymindegab in a jar. I remember saying to my partner, "If we come back next year, we should definitely visit Inger again."

And so, it happened. This year we were in Nymindegab again, and as promised we stopped at Inger's. I can tell you; it was her lucky day. We didn't leave with just a few jars – no, we took a total of 30 jars of all kinds of flavors! Each jar is a little piece of Nymindegab, a delightful reminder of a place that stole our hearts.

So, if you ever get a chance to visit Nymindegab, make sure you stop by Inger. Her jam is not only a treat for your taste buds, but also a perfect way to take home a bit of the magic of this special village.
